One of the competitors that year was Mike Mentzer, who was confident that he had what it took to win. He had been competing in bodybuilding competitions since the early 1970s, and he had won several titles, including the Mr. Universe title in 1978.

On the day of the competition, Mentzer was in peak condition. He had trained and dieting hard for many months, and he was ready to take on the competition. He stepped onto the stage and immediately commanded the attention of the crowd. His physique was impressive, and he was clearly the one of the favorites to win.

The judges were equally impressed with Mike Mentzer's physique. He was awarded the highest score of the competition, and it seemed like he was destined to be crowned the new Mr. Olympia.

After the competition, Mentzer announced that he was retiring from bodybuilding. He said that he had achieved all of his goals in the sport, and he wanted to move on to other pursuits.
